Colleges Go Head-to-Head in Public Services Competition!

Date: 25/09/2014

Dearne Valley College Public Services students faced their Doncaster College counterparts recently as part of a fantastic, inter-college event that took place at the Manvers Boathouse and Lake in Rotherham.

The event saw each College enter two teams to compete in a variety of activities to test the students’ skills. The teams took part in canoe polo, team sprints in a variety of canoes and kayaks, and raft-building using barrels, wood and rope, to score points and compete for the prestigious trophy.

Speaking about the event, Public Services Tutor at Dearne Valley College, Paul Meares said:

“It was a fantastic day for all, allowing the students to put their team work, physical activity and leadership skills into practice. After this year’s success we hope to be able to make it an annual event, with more College’s competing for the trophy.”

“Events like these allow us to promote Public Services and the wide variety of career paths and opportunities available to students who choose to study in this area whilst using the excellent facilities available to our students at the Manvers Boathouse.”

The results were close, but Dearne Valley College students came out victorious, taking first and second place to win gold and silver medals and the winner’s trophy.

Dearne Valley College is still accepting applications for this year, for courses in Public Services, Sports and a wide variety of other full-time and part-time courses.
