College Award Winners Announced for National Apprenticeship Week 2015!

Date: 16/03/2015

Apprentices from across the South Yorkshire region are celebrating after winning prestigious awards from Dearne Valley College for their achievements and successes.

Employers were asked to nominate their young recruits in the weeks running up to National Apprenticeship Week, and just five were chosen to take the titles. A winner was announced each day on the College’s social media channels and website, celebrating their individual stories and successes.

First to be announced was the winner of the College’s ‘Best Newcomer’ Apprenticeship award, Khadija Rafiq, who is currently on a Business Administration Apprenticeship at Maplin Electronics. Khadija was recognised for her efforts in taking on big challenges right from the start, despite being new to the role, whilst the College’s ‘Innovation’ Apprenticeship award was presented to Glenn Parkin at Ashton Seals, part of the The Ashton Group. His employer praised Glenn, saying that “he has implemented innovative and fresh ideas to their existing practices, having made a significant and positive impact on the business”.

Third to be announced as the winner of the College’s ‘Rising Star’ Apprenticeship Award was fellow Business Administration Apprentice, Bethany Ward at Doncaster-based Insurance Company, Ryan Direct Group. Her employers felt that Bethany’s fantastic work ethic has led her to go above and beyond what is expected of an Apprentice, and she has now been offered a full-time role with them, well in advance of completing her Apprenticeship.

Alana Anderson was the next winner, taking the ‘Customers’ Choice’ Apprenticeship award after receiving continual, positive feedback and comments from patients and colleagues at the Church View Surgery in Denaby, where she is completing her training. The final winner of National Apprenticeship Week was Scott Reynolds at Chesman Decorators LTD, who was the recipient of the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution’ Apprenticeship award. His employer said that Scott was sought after by the company’s sub-contractors who often requested to work specifically with the Apprentice, and has secured himself a full-time role with his employers.
