A Top Yorkshire Chef visited Dearne Valley College recently to share her knowledge, and an array of beautifully cooked food with a group of the College’s Catering and Hospitality Students.
Stephanie Moon, who is the Consultant Chef at the prestigious, Harrogate-based, Rudding Park, and who found fame on the popular TV show, ‘The Great British Menu’ generously donated her time to deliver an employability and progression talk and a cookery demonstration to a group of aspiring students.
The event, held at the College’s training and commercial restaurant, The Griffin, based at Wath-upon-Dearne in Rotherham, saw Stephanie talk about her own experiences of College life and her tales of carving out a successful career in the Catering industry.
Stephanie, who enjoys using, and promotes the use of local and foraged ingredients in her cooking, wowed the students with a live three-course cooking demonstration, which included such dishes as Foraged Nettle Onion Bhajis, Homemade Hummous with Wild Garlic Bread, Lamb Cutlets and Strawberry and Rhubarb Clafoutis, among others.
Speaking about the experience, Stephanie said:
“I really enjoyed the friendliness of the Catering department at Dearne Valley College. They have some fantastic students, and they were all highly motivated to succeed and are being prepared well for the industry. I look forward to opportunities to work with the College again, hopefully in the form of a fundraising event involving the students, for my chosen charity ‘Simon on the Streets’.”
Of Stephanie’s visit, Curriculum Manager for Catering and Hospitality, Carol Brook said:
“It is great for the College’s Catering and Hospitality department to build relationships with influential individuals such as Stephanie, to provide opportunities for our learners, as well as inspire them to aim high and achieve success. Stephanie will also be working with the College to source and potentially provide work placements using her contacts, and to host events which will all be fantastic experience for the students.”
