COLLEGE OFFERS HELPING HAND

Date: 23/05/2012

Dearne Valley College (DVC) Training Allowance rewards students with £10.00 per week for 100% attendance.

DVC is the only college in South Yorkshire to offer all existing and new 16 to 18 year old full-time students and Apprentices a weekly payment to incentivise full college attendance. An annual achievement bonus of £100 will also be awarded for those who complete their programme with consistently excellent attendance in 2012/13.

The DVC Training Allowance is a flat-fee and is not means tested, it is hoped to ease any financial pressures of attending college and enable students to prosper in their studies and ultimately reach their career aspirations.

Ioan Morgan, DVC Interim Principal, commented:
“It is the College’s responsibility to make learning as accessible as possible and the new DVC Training Allowance will have a significant impact for our 16 to 18 year old learners. Not only will it support them financially, but it will also help to instil the importance of good attendance – a life skill that will support them in their future careers.
The DVC Training Allowance is exclusive to our students; I would encourage those who are looking at their options after school to make an application to one of our many full-time vocational programmes or Apprenticeships”.

The launch of the DVC Training Allowance is yet another milestone for DVC, earlier this year the college launched a range of new courses for September 2012 including; Motorsport, Electrical Engineering and Graphic Design.
