Tropical climes have arrived in the Dearne Valley.

Lauren Sharpe (25) from Kilnhurst, Mexborough has been chosen as the winner of Dearne Valley College’s (DVC) recent in-house 3D nail competition with her rainforest inspired look.

Lauren’s creation was created taking inspiration from research materials for the tropical themed entry. Lauren made the accessories from acrylic and won a range of products from Nail Systems International (NSI).

As part of the Design and Creating unit, the Level 3 Beauty Therapy students were given a brief from Beauty Therapy Tutor Clair Mynett of either historical or fantasy themes to create 3D acrylic nails using a theme of their choice.

To accompany the nails they were asked to create a costume, arm art, hair and make-up for the finished image. The students used each other as models with one group creating the nails and outfits one week and then swapping over for the next creations.

After working on the brief for a number of weeks and creating mood boards, the students had two hours to create their finished look. The students used an NSI product range to create the 3D acrylic nails.

The competition was judged by DVC Beauty Therapy Tutors and Karen Potts, North West Representative/Educator from Nail Systems International (NSI).

Claire Mynett, DVC Beauty Therapy Tutor commented:
“The students have all worked really hard to create their 3D nails. There have been some really creative designs produced. All the students have put a lot of time and effort into creating some fantastic designs”.

Dearne Valley College are now accepting applications for many vocational courses starting September 2012.
