Amy Oliver Opens New Fitness Center

Date: 03/11/2011

Amy Oliver (24) from Swinton, Archery World Championship medal winner and London 2012 Olympic Games hopeful, officially opened the new extended fitness facilities at DVC Sports.

Amy, a former Dearne Valley College (DVC) student along with current students, staff, contractors and invited guests officially opened the new fitness facilities on the campus of Dearne Valley College.

After securing £225,000 of funding, O&P Construction Services Limited based in Wath completed the extension works back in July designed by Globe Architects. The extension works included a single storey extension to house extra gym equipment and a free weights area.

The College secured the Renewal Grant allocation funding for capital projects from the Skills Funding Agency to which the College added £450,000 from its own reserves. The Renewal Grant allocation money was also used to replace the roof to an area known as The Street which is a main thoroughfare through college.

Paul Townsley, DVC Principal and Chief Executive commented:

“We are delighted that Amy has taken the time out of her busy training schedule and commitments to visit our facilities. The extension to the sports centre and the addition of sports equipment will allow us to extend our offer and service to the local community and allow for additional curriculum usage”.

Amy is currently training and working towards the London 2012 Olympic Games.

To coincide with the opening, DVC Sports are offering free gym inductions up until Christmas 2011. DVC Sports Centre memberships are available from £17.00 per month for further details contact DVC Sports on T: 01709 513115 or visit www.dvcsports.co.uk
