Whether you’re about to finish College or sixth form, or you want to return to study, Dearne Valley College (DVC) offers a range of Higher Education courses designed to suit your lifestyle and career aspirations. Our Part-Time courses are ideal for those who may already be working but want to gain a nationally recognised Higher Education qualification to progress their career.
We strive to help all of our students achieve their full potential and their qualifications so that they can move on to further study and/or employment.
Central to this is providing a range of support services and facilities to help students get the most from their time at DVC. Our Student Services Centre offers help and support from a team of professional, friendly staff in a private and confidential setting. Specialist impartial advice and guidance is available and to ensure that your time in college is a positive experience.

A handbook, containing in-depth information on the services provided, is available to all students and you will receive a copy during your induction. Copies are also available from the Student Services Centre and on our virtual learning environment.

All full-time students will have both group and individual tutorials on their timetable each week.
Your Programme Leaders will also provide you with tutorial support with your academic study, set and review academic targets and set work to be completed outside of your academic sessions. The purpose of the tutorials is to:
- Set-challenging and aspirational targets
- Monitor and review progress
- Develop your personal, social and employability skills
- Support on any pastoral issues
- Support your progression and ‘next steps’
You can ask for an additional 1-to-1 tutorial at any point, substantial support and guidance is also provided for part-time students. Additional Learning Support (ALS) can be arranged if you need further support to meet your targets.
The Learning Centre is well–equipped and offers a welcoming and supportive environment where you can find the information required for your course.
Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and supportive, and will be pleased to help you with your studies.
There are books, journals and newspapers, as well as electronic resources including computers, laptops, printers/scanners, and internet access.
We also have rooms available to study individually, as a group, or in silence.
Even when you’re at home we can still help, with our collection of eBooks, study support and learning materials on the College’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). You can even email the team for support should you need it.
Dedicated Higher Education Teaching Spaces
The College’s online e-learning portal (Moodle) gives you access to a wealth of resources including materials relevant to your course and a range of useful information sources such as online journals, study skills guides and reading lists. The portal can be used with any device that has internet access.
Higher Education Study Room
The Higher Education study room provides access to PC workstations, internet access and printers.
The Manvers Diner provides a delicious range of hot and cold food and drinks, with a wide variety of healthy options available.

Manvers Waterfront Boat Club
The College works closely with the Boat Club, which is just 1.5 miles away. Here you can benefit from discounted membership and access to a range of action-packed outdoor sports including canoeing, triathlons, windsurfing, fishing, running and open-water swimming.

There are a variety of shops, pubs, eating places and things to do close to the College including Tesco, Asda, Holiday Inn Express, Costa Coffee, KFC, Greggs, the Bluebell Inn, the Church House to name a few.
The Manvers Waterfront Boat Club is a rapidly growing multi sports club based at Manvers Lake in Wath-upon-Dearne. The current range of activities include canoeing & kayaking, triathlon, running, open water swimming, windsurfing, sailing, fishing, model boating, sub-aqua, biking and wildlife conservation.

The Cortonwood Retail Park is home to a variety of retail outlets including Morrisons, Boots, Smyths Toys, Halfords, Dreams, Pizza Hut, ASDA Living, Next, Argos, Matalan, SportsDirect, McDonalds, B&Q and ScS Sofa’s.
