Starting College

When do I enrol?
A letter will be on its way to you shortly, detailing your enrolment time and date, and all of the essentials you need to bring with you on the day. If you are worried that you haven't received your letter, that your address may be incorrect, or that you need to change your enrolment time or date, contact the Admissions team on 01709 513355, or at learn@dearne-coll.ac.uk.

When does my course start?
You will receive a letter through the post detailing your course start date. This year's Autumn term begins in the week commencing 7th September.

Will there be a Fresher's Event?
Of course! Each year we host our yearly DVC Fresher's Fair featuring lots of stands and freebies from local and national businesses, activities, music, games, food and drinks and much more to start off your College year with a bang! You can also take this opportunity to sign up to different enrichment activities such as sports, clubs and societies to complement your studies! Keep an eye out on our website for updates about the DVC Fresher's Fair.

What will I need to bring with me on my first day?
Make sure that you are equipped with the essential study items, such as pens and a notepad. You will be notified if you need any specialist textbooks, clothing or equipment, such as Hair and Beauty students who will need to purchase an Aspirations salon tunic, and Construction students who will require specialist boots and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - some equipment may be supplied by College, however this will be communicated to you in due course.

College & Student Life

Are there places to eat at College?
Our Manvers campus has an on-site Diner with a delicious range of hot and cold food and beverages to purchase. The diner operates a cashless catering system, with all purchases made using your Student ID card. Money can be added to your card online or using payment machines at the College - this will be explained to you further when you come to College. Alternatively, we have a number of vending machines in and around College, as well as local eateries for you to take advantage of, including Subway, KFC, Costa and more!

Unlike school, there is no uniform or dress code, but you are expected to choose clothing that is inoffensive and appropriate for an educational setting. Some courses require learners to wear particular uniforms or course-related clothing, such as Hair & Beauty, Construction and Catering. This will be communicated to you before you begin your course.

Are there any activities to get involved in?
We offer a programme of enrichment activities which will be compulsory within your College timetable. This could include things like employability and starting your own business, a debating team, a College newsletter and much more. We also have a fantastic Academy of Sport, including football, basketball, taekwondo, golf and rugby, and academy students train within state-of-the-art facilities, and compete in sports leagues. We also have fantastic links with the local Manvers Boathouse where you can take part in range of water sports and activities, all with a discounted student membership!
