Studying Health and Social Care at Dearne Valley College...

Learning Environment
An essential part of completing a Health and Social Care qualification is work experience. It’s a great way for you to develop an in-depth understanding of how Health and Social Care organisations operate and what job roles are available.

Although you will be based in well-equipped classrooms at the Manvers Campus for taught sessions, you will spend much of your time on work placement at a variety of different organisations.

Depending on which course you are studying, this placement may be weekly or in blocks throughout the year. Previous students have enjoyed placements at hospitals, care homes, day centres, nursing homes, special educational needs schools, the Ambulance Service, children’s centres, with youth offending teams, and at day nurseries.

Gaining experience in the workplace will give your portfolio a boost and will show employers that you have gained a broad range of work skills whilst studying for your qualifications. This is a great way to improve your confidence around both clients and colleagues.

Uniform
You will be required to wear a Dearne Valley College polo shirt during work placement duties. This is available at a very reasonable price from the College.
